Have you ever wished you were "that" kind
of person?
You
know,
the kind of person who works out regularly, doesn't think twice about
it, and doesn't care whether the chocolate cake is sitting in front of
them or not?
Do you currently find yourself
sitting
in front of your
refrigerator or computer, wishing you could lose the weight? You
Can!
Do you find yourself with a
gym
membership in your
wallet,
but haven't attended in the last 6 weeks (or longer)? You
Will!
My name is Carrie Moritz, and I've been down the weight loss road for
what feels like way too long. It took me several years and many
trials and tribulations to finally understand what was holding me back
from the body I wanted, and it all boiled down to the realization that I didn't think like someone who was a
healthy person. I beat myself up for "failing" at the diet
plans I tried, and I "tried" to workout, but just couldn't get the
motivation to do it. So what changed?
What changed was
me. I changed my mindset to become a healthier person, not just
to avoid the health problems a close family member was experiencing,
but to be able to really enjoy my
life. I was unhappy and unhealthy, and it showed. So
I changed myself, slowly but surely, and put in hours and years of
research to learn how to become that healthy person I knew I was.
What those years have culminated in is the book, THAT Healthy
Person. And I'm here to share that experience, and the most
effective methods I used, to become THAT healthy person.
Every person who
carries around excess weight in this society feels
some type of discrimination, anger, or experiences
blows to their self-esteem about being
overweight. It's impossible, with the models, the television ads,
and the media we are blasted with on a daily basis, not to feel
as though being overweight is the worst thing in the world. Add
to that the constant "nagging" of that same media and your inner self
to "lose that weight," and it is no wonder you feel as though something
needs to change.
Here are five
rules you must follow if you wish to start
along the
path to becoming THAT Healthy Person:
Rule #1: Quit
blaming.
Yes, there is a
lot of
finger pointing in today's society.
Somebody must always be blamed for something! Well, it's up to
you to stop it. Now.
Nothing will
change
until you do. Being overweight or unhealthy
is nobody's "fault," because it is just too complex of a subject to
have one specific thing be the culprit. So it is up to you to
accept responsibility for the way you currently are, whether you are
happy with where you are at or not. Blaming somebody or something
(even yourself!) is not going to change the situation.
Rule #2: Quit
wishing you were someone/something you are not.
Every single
person on
this earth has flaws! No matter how much
you may be wishing for something, it is never going to happen until you
finally take those small, consistent steps toward where you want to
go. So stop wishing and start doing! If you wish you were
120 pounds and have the right build and height for it (5'3" and under
or small-boned 5'6" and under), start taking small, consistent steps
every day. Don't worry about those days where you'll "fail"- just
get back up again as soon as you can and KEEP GOING. Don't worry
about getting it all done in one week, or two, or sixteen. Just
do it.
Rule #3: Quit
setting unrealistic goals.
Losing all of
your
weight in one workout is NOT going to happen, no
matter how hard you work. Losing all your weight by taking a pill
from a bottle is NOT going to happen, no matter how many bottles you
buy. Losing ten pounds in two weeks is NOT going to happen,
unless you're severely obese and suddenly lost a bunch of water weight.
Goals are
extremely
important, and they are the culmination of the
small steps that are taken when you get into action. They are the
result of your behaviors, but they are the result of MANY SMALL behaviors that happen over a period of time.
It is this moment that changes the course of your life, and "this
moment" is happening constantly.
You are always
working
toward some type of goal, whether you realize it
or not. Yes, unbeknownst to you, you have been working toward the goal
of becoming the unhealthy, unhappy person you are right now, by making
the choices that have gotten you to this point. All those
extra-large portions, all that fast food, all that "Oh, I can have one
more slice" or "One more bite" decisions were putting you toward that
goal.
So, if you want
to
change, you'll have to start making decisions that
put you toward the new goal. Making that goal conscious and behavioral
will help you realize when you accomplish it.
Rule #4: Start
Moving and Stay Moving.
Newton's Law
applies to
humans as much as it does to any inanimate
object. If an object is at rest, it will stay at rest until an
outside force propels it forward. YOU are your own outside
force. That brain of yours is the most amazing piece of the
universe, and your body is next in line. YOU must decide, and then not
argue with yourself,
about becoming that outside force that propels you. "Getting
going" is the hardest part, and that is where you will be expending the
most energy, creativity, and willpower. How long it takes to "get
going" is up to you. Will it take 1 day repeated consistently, or
will it take 21 days repeated consistently? Once you've begun,
and once you stop arguing with yourself, it gets easier and easier to
stay in motion.
Rule #5: Start
Challenging Yourself.
Life is an
adventure. An adventure is not outlined by the main
character taking the easiest course, it's outlined by the character
continuing along the uncomfortable path until they reach their goal, no
matter how
uncomfortable they are or how much they just want to go home.
Going home is
your
comfort zone. Making those same choices that
have gotten you to where you are at now is your comfort zone. You
will have to embark on an adventure to reach your goal, and that
adventure will take you down many uncomfortable and unfamiliar
paths. You may hit some "briars" (plateaus) and you may hit some
"villians" (saboteurs, including you- your own worst enemy), but if you
continue along in your adventure, you will get to where you want to go.
With these rules,
and with all the information you will find in this
